Social Connectedness Fellowship - Samuel Center for Social Connectedness, Global (March 10)
The Samuel Center for Social Connectedness supports young people to partner with different organizations from around the world to carry out innovative research on social isolation and belonging.
We are especially excited about the Relationships Project to create a pattern library for Relationship-Centered Practice. The chosen fellow will work alongside the team members of The Relationships Project to collate resources and research on related theories.
Editorial Fellowship - Words Without Borders, Global (March 22)
Words Without Borders is committed to expanding the cultural understanding of readers by providing access to contemporary international literature in English translation. They are looking for editorial fellows who want to gain experience in the digital literary field and have an interest in promoting international literature.

Museum Fellowship Programme - Zeitz MOCAA & University of the Western Cape, South Africa/Africa & diaspora wide(July 1)
Aimed at fostering the growth of the curatorial practice and advancing contemporary art discourse in Africa, the Zeitz MOCAA and University of the Western Cape museum fellowship programme is a 12-month program open to individuals interested in developing their careers in the arts. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in the programme on a full time basis from February 2025 to January 2026 in South Africa.
Ebedi International Writers Residency - Ebedi Residency, Nigeria (ongoing)
The brainchild of Dr Wale Okediran, the Ebedi International Writers Residency provides writers with a conducive environment to advance ongoing projects and is open to writers from all over Africa.
2024 Writing Fellowship - A Public Space, Global (April 1)
A Public Space, publishers of Arinze Ifeakandu’s award winning God’s Children Are Little Broken Things, have opened applications for the 2024 Writing Fellowship to support upcoming writers.

Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize - Wasafiri Magazine, UK (July 1)
From its inception in 2009 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wasafiri magazine, the Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize has supported new writers in the categories of Fiction, Poetry and Life Writing. The winners in each category will be awarded a £1000 prize and publication in the magazine.
The Nigeria Prizes for Science, Literary Criticism and Literature - Nigeria LNG Limited (April 2)
Nigeria LNG Limited is the proud sponsor of three of the biggest and most prestigious prizes in Africa for science, literature, and literary criticism: The Nigeria Prize for Science and The Nigeria Prize for Literature, each worth USD100,000 in award money, and The Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism with a N1 million cash reward. This year's literature category is children’s literature so send in your best!
The Hope Prize - Ubwali Literary Magazine, Zambia (ongoing)
The Hope Prize is a yearly celebration of excellence in Zambian prose and poetry. The winner receives a $500 honorarium. All work by Zambian writers published in Ubwali Literary Magazine is considered for the prize.
The Coal Prize - Project Coal, Global (May 5)
Transformation is a part of living. The Coal prize is seeking artists who are developing restorative practices and work that highlight transformation. A creative residency and a prize of 12,000 euros await the winner.
The Hope Prize - The Hope Prize, Australia/Global (March 22)
What is your story of Hope? In conjunction with Simon & Schuster Australia, the Hope Prize is a celebration of the human spirit. They are seeking submissions centered around themes of hope, courage and resilience.
Afrobeats PhD - Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries (CMCI), King’s College London, UK (March 19)
Applications are open for a four-year fully funded PhD program on “Afrobeats and Afro bytes: the global development of West African music and the role of digital and platform economies.”

Kenya-ness Anthology - Soma Nami Press, Kenya (March 15)
Newly launched publishing house Soma Nami Press has opened submissions for their very first Kenyan anthology seeking stories that portray the diverse voices and spirit of Kenyan culture. Only Kenyan citizens are eligible.
Call for Book, Music and Movie Reviews - The Lagos Review (ongoing)
For the past four years, the Lagos Review has been dedicated to promoting critical engagement of works of art. They are offering $50 dollars for reviews of books, music or movies.
Sneak Peek - The Lagos Review (ongoing)
A new series from the minds behind the Lagos Review, Sneak Peek, is offering authors and publishers the chance to share a part of their work-in-progress to the world before it is published. Accepted submissions will receive $250 for works under 5,000 words.
Call for contributors - Native Magazine, Nigeria/Africa-wide (ongoing)
Native magazine is looking for stories on the music, style, culture and politics that make up this current era. Interested creatives and writers should send a pitch to the editor at wale@thenativemag.com.
Call for Papers and Creative Proposals- Atlantica/University of Lagos/University of Exeter, Nigeria/Global (March 18)
Atlantica is a pan-African biennial of art and cultural enquiry that aims to re-examine the multiple histories and historical presents of the Atlantic from contemporary perspectives. Its first platform, Seen from Lagos, is seeking call for papers and proposals of creative exhibitions/performances.
Film Africa festival ‘24, UK (ongoing)
Film Africa is the Royal African Society’s biennial festival celebrating African and African diaspora cinema from across the continent. Alongside the core film programme, awards will be given to the best short film and the best feature film. The festival will also feature a variety of events for filmmakers such as panel discussions and talks.

Grants & Resources
Female Researcher’s Grant - Future Rural Africa, Africa-wide (March 30)
Applications are now open for the 2024 Future Rural Africa Female Researcher’s Grant. The Grant aims to support female researchers from the Global South at an early stage of their career. This Grant is particularly open to researchers on themes of socio-ecological change, conservation and shaping the future of Africa.
UpGreyed Her - Grey, Africa-wide (March 24)
UpGreyed Her is awarding a total of $8,000 in prize money to the three most deserving applications. The first-place winner gets $4,000 and two runners-up will receive $2,000 each.
Inge Morath Award - Magnum Foundation, Global (April 30)
Created in honour of the photographer Inge Morath, the award supports women or non-binary photographers in the completion of a long-term documentary project. The selected recipient will receive a grant of $7,500 and one finalist will receive $1,000.
Festival Connect Fund - British Council, Africa-wide (ongoing)
The Festival Connect Fund is a new initiative from the British Council that aims to provide support to festivals that celebrate the arts across Africa and Internationally.
Call for Application: Cultural & Artistic Response to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) - Prince Claus Fund, Global (March 21)
CAREC is a year-long programme aimed at supporting mid-career artists and cultural practitioners in the development of alternative models of climate justice worldwide.
Narrative Building Workshop - Through The Lens Collective, South Africa/Africa-wide (ongoing)
Through the Lens Collective is a collaborative and developmental photographic space by Michelle Loukidis that aims to develop creativity, critical thinking and professional practice through photographic training. The Narrative Building workshop is for photographers who want to develop their understanding of the creation of a photographic project that is narrative-based. It is a part-time course that can be taken online or irl and it costs R5000.
